Festival 2011

Canterbury Short Film Festival

Now in its tenth year, the short film festival has brought collections of works by kiwis and more recently international emergent film makers to the silver screen in Christchurch. Since its inception the event has screened more than 500 short film works ranging in duration from seconds to 30 minutes. The average length is considered to be between 3 and 12 minutes. Most often short films are used as a means to an end, to show skill, craft or concept in moving image story telling but also as stand alone art works.

  • SHORT FILM FESTIVAL 2011 CANTERBURY, NZ
  • The 2011 season has closed in Christchurch. We played four screenings, Cashmere, Hornby, Merivale and New Brighton. It is our hope to show some retro seasons for the public in the coming months, so watch this space. Suggestions on venues? Should we come to your suburb? Let us know.

Our Tour is over for 2011, but the 2011 program will tour again in March. We've had poor to mixed results in the centres we visited, but were aware our funds would be strained for promotion in each centre and local media was utterly unhelpful in most instances. We'll not be returning to Hastings or New Plymouth again, audiences of less than 5 in each case. Places like Napier, Tauranga, Rotorua, Taupo, Picton, Gisbourne and Palmerston North had audiences in double figures so we will examine how stronger promotion in these centres could foster audiences. Nelson was good, around 35 attended our screening there so we will have further showings in Nelson. Adding southern centres in the South in March.

Our New Birghton Extra Screening and Lyttelton Screening on Dec 2 and 4 attracted only 10 at NB but 20 at Lyttelton. We'd like to do ore suburban or small town screenings. Watch this space.
